Investigations are under way into the tragic death of an Irish father while on holiday in Mallorca at the weekend.
The body of dad of three Sean McDaid was found in a canal three days after he went missing from the holiday apartment he was sharing with his wife and children.
Spanish police have launched a full scale enquiry into the Donegal man’s death.
Sean (35) and his wife Ellen had travelled from their home in Carndonagh, Donegal to the holiday resort of Alcudia in Mallorca to celebrate Ellen’s 29th birthday.
Tragically Sean’s body was found on Friday night by other holiday makers walking along the Avenue Mexico de Alcudia Canal. He had not been seen by his wife for three days.
Speaking about the heartbreaking find, Sean’s father-in-law Patrick McDonagh said the family were at a loss as to what happened to him.
“They went out on Tuesday night but after they got back to the hotel Sean said he fancied another pint,” said Patrick.
“That’s the last time Ellen saw him.”
It was reported locally that Sean was last seen in a nearby bar on the water front.
“There is nothing at the moment to suggest the death was suspicious. The police are treating it as a tragic accident. They believe he may have fallen in and wasn’t able to get back out,” a Spanish source said.
