Unemployment rate rises to 10.9 percent

Unemployment in the Balearic Islands growing faster than expected.

In October, the number of unemployed rose by almost 54 percent compared to the previous year to nearly 57,000 now. The unemployment rate is thus 10.9 percent, it lies under the spain-wide rate of 13 percent now. The state government fears that unemployment in the winter months at a value of 13 or 14 percent will grow.

In October and November each year takes the number of unemployed, as many hotels in Majorca close. The current sharp rise in addition to the general economic situation with the difficulties in the construction sector and the disappearance of jobs in the services sector founded.
