Both teams will be hoping to transfer their Copa del Rey form to the Primera Liga this weekend when they clash at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos in Andalucia.

The two teams both progressed to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey in the midweek, but their league form has not been quite so good over the past few weeks.

Hosts Almeria have taken just two points from their last five league games, but during that time did the double over high-flying Segunda Division side Rayo Vallecano in the cup, going through 5-1 on aggregate.

Mallorca, meanwhile, dumped Primera Liga rivals Malaga out of the cup 3-1 on aggregate, despite the fact that in their last five league outings have lost three and won just one.

Almeria, who are level on 12 points but two spots below 11th-placed Mallorca in the league standings, are again set to be without Iriney Santos and Miguel Angel Nieto because of injuries sustained this weekend.

Mallorca will be bitterly disappointed they did not beat Athletic Bilbao at home last Sunday, surrendering a two-goal lead with 11 minutes remaining to draw 3-3. Coach Gregorio Manzano will be demanding better this time from a match he expects to be extremely close.

“Any error from either of the two teams could lead to victory for the other,” he said.

“Although Almeria have gone five weeks without winning, they have already faced the big teams and they are level on points with us.

“They are a difficult team to beat, but we will show our level. We were very good (against Malaga) and played a great standard of football,” added Manzano, who will again be without injured goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya.
