Recent bad weather has made fishing impossible

The storms, high winds and general bad weather that has affected Mallorca recently has made it impossible for the island´s fishermen to make a living, reports the Diario de Mallorca. Most fishing boats have been forced to stay in port for over a month, with only the largest trawlers venturing out.

The storms have made it very difficult for fishermen to satisfy the demand for local staples such as caboti and chanquete (a small translucent fish), the season for which began about three weeks ago. There are hopes that the cuttlefish season, which begins in January, will be more successful.
